Exclusive: The Grand Hustle-turned-Maybach Music Group emcee talks about the importance of flow and a hot hook, and points to Freeway and Beanie Sigel and great Philly pioneers.

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania emcee Meek Mill (f/k/a Meek Millz) is celebrating a career high in scoring a substantial position upon the Maybach Music Group’s budding roster, and a strong role in Self Made, Volume 1, due on May 23. The onetime Grand Hustle Records artist spoke to HipHopDX earlier this month about his roots in the City of Brotherly Love. “You know I’m from [Philadelphia], so we all have a special sound from there, be that Beanie [Sigel] or Freeway. I grew up under artists who practiced their flow so I came up understanding the importance of that. When you’re from Philly, you gotta have your lyrics and your flow [rehearsed perfectly], that’s the number one thing. You also gotta have a hot hook but you have to have a perfected flow as well, from my city. Philly just influenced him in general when it comes to my flow.” Meek subscribes to this, as heard in his hometown hit "Rosé Red," which the emcee made prior to his signing with Rick Ross.

Now aligned with a Miami rapper, as well as generation of regional artists on MMG, such as Washington DC's Wale and Atlanta, Georgia's Pill, Meek spoke about his responsibility to put on for his city. “Yeah there’s hasn’t been someone to represent Philly in a major way in a while, but I don’t feel that it puts any added pressure on me. I’m just ready to get things back popping out here for my city again. I knew I was going to be able to make it from the Philly underground scene to the major level eventually, I just knew it." Confident in his ascent to stardom, Meek said that this is part of a bigger picture. "That’s how I live my life, you have to always be confident and just know what you are capable of doing. I believe that you have to strongly know what you’re going to do in life, you can’t assume you have to just know it for a fact in this game. Whatever you may want, you have to know you can get it. “

Maybach Music Group's Self-Made, Volume 1 will release on May 23 on Warner Brothers Records.

Nas explains how his reunion with P came to be.

Nas and Prodigy's beef has been well-documented in Hip Hop, as the former friends and collaborators eventually turned bitter rivals. However, the two recently made peace, as Nas even appeared on Mobb Deep's track"Dog Shit," surprising many.

In a recent interview with MTV News, Nas explained how the reunion came to pass.

"He called me as soon as he got out of jail; he got in touch with me. We talked about some things," said God's son. "I didn't know he had a book. He didn't tell me that. I guess he just wanted to clear the air on some past things that don't mean anything today."

Nas continued, and spoke about "Dog Shit." "I just jumped on the record; put that to the past or whatever ill feelings he had towards me. I think he was misinformed about things, like I was a negative guy or like I was trying to harm him in any kind of way. I think maybe he just grew up a little bit."

As for being mentioned in P's autobiography, Nas had only one request: "Tell the truth if you're gonna write a book. Tell the truth to the best of your ability, that's all I would say to anybody. Just tell the truth."

The Philly rapper was arrested for violating his probation, but is suspected in a murder.

Rapper Cassidy was arrested yesterday in Hackensack, New Jersey on several charges. The Philadelphia, Pennsylvania native, whose real name is Barry Reese, was nabbed on a warrant for violating his probation, but was suspected in a murder and two attempted murders in Philly.

According to sources, the Philadelphia Police warrant squad reached out to Hackensack Police Department to inform them that Cassidy, who lives in the Jersey city, had a warrant out for his arrest. They notified the squad that Cassidy was considered “armed and dangerous” and that it was a “high-risk warrant.”

Police were dispatched and followed Cassidy as he went to a local convenience store, confirming his identity and conducting a “felony motor vehicle stop.” Hackensack police Lt. Timothy Lloyd commended the officers for doing “an outstanding job,” and claimed that Cassidy was “very surprised” that he was arrested.

The 28-year-old is currently being held in the Bergen County Jail Annex and will be extradited to Philadelphia. He is most famous for singles including “I’m a Hustla” and “My Drink n My 2 Step.”
